Joan Lebow, J.D.
Fellow

Joan Lebow, a Fellow of the Center on Nanotechnology and Society, is a healthcare attorney with more than two decades of corporate and regulatory experience, and an adjunct faculty member at Chicago-Kent College of Law. She provides corporate counsel services for a variety of companies and healthcare provider practices, concentrating on: healthcare issues in the context of clinical services delivery and commercial transactions; corporate organization for clinical providers; health benefits; ERISA; managed care; and regulatory compliance. She also provides direct client support on HIPPA, and state laws on privacy and security. Lebow started the Legal Department of Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago in 1987 and served as General Counsel for 13 years. During her tenure, she managed all trials and appeals, and all insurance, including commercial, malpractice liability and self-insurance. Lebow frequently presents on topics such as the advent of the federal Digital Signature Statute, attorney-client privilege, and ethical issues for corporate counsel and insurance regulation. She is a past President and a current Board Member of the Chicago Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors of The Family Institute, is an active fundraiser for The Bottomless Closet, is a member of the Steering Committee of the Senior Business Women's Forum, and serves on various committees of the Illinois Association of Hospital Attorneys.
