Janet Staker Woerner, M.S.
Fellow
Janet Woerner has more than 25 years of experience in the field of marketing and marketing communications. She brings a wealth of knowledge in marketing, marketing communications and corporate education. She also has extensive experience in the area of technology-based solutions for marketing. Most recently she has been research the area of accelerating change and the societal implications on a global scale.
Previously, Janet was a National Manager in Corporate Education for a Fortune 500 manufacturing company. She was responsible for curriculum development, field-based training, and ongoing executive training. She also has experience as a marketing communications consultant in the scientific community; working with Argonne National Lab, Fermi National Lab, Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and University Research Associates. Fortune 500 clients have been Ameritech, Baxter, Crate & Barrel, Giddings and Lewis, Kraft, and SBC.
She is currently the Principal and Founder of Converging Communications, which works with organizations to fully utilize technology and marketing. She participates as Faculty at New York Institute of Technology for the MBA Program teaching Managerial Marketing, Implementing Marketing Strategy, and Sales Promotion. In addition, Woerner is Adjunct Faculty for Illinois Institute of Technology teaching Emerging Technologies and Society. She also is involved with the IPRO Program, which is an interdisciplinary approach to education at the university level. The current IPRO deals with emerging technologies and public perception.
Her current research areas include convergence, technology and ethics, multi-disciplinary education, virtual learning, and accelerating change. Woerner is authoring a book on technology, change, and society. She has been a presenter at the Academy of Management, as well as the iBIO Forum and American Philosophical Society. Most recently, she has served as a peer reviewer for the Academy of Management (Technology and Innovative Management Division). She is a frequent guest speaker at area colleges and national professional organizations. Currently, she is working with the Institute of Accelerating Change to promote awareness of future technologies as Artificial Intelligence and Intelligence Augmentation.
Her undergraduate degree is in Political Science Education from Illinois State University and graduate degree of Marketing/E-Commerce from Stuart Graduate School of Business/Illinois Institute of Technology. She also holds additional certification the areas of Nanotechnology and Alternative Energy Policies.
