U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman, J.D.
Brad Sherman is a Congressman serving California's 27th District. He serves on: the Committee on International Relations, and its subcommittees on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation, and on Asia and the Pacific; the Committee on Financial Services, and its subcommittees on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government-sponsored Enterprises, on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, and on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade, and Technology; and the Committee on Science and its subcommittees on Space and on Energy.
On the Budget Committee in 1997, Sherman authored the Sherman Amendment to the Budget Resolution providing an additional $700 million for the acquisition of environmentally important lands in FY 1998. The Sherman Amendment was included in the Joint Budget Resolution and effectuated by a $699 million appropriation. Sherman also secured $16 million to acquire land and to complete the Backbone Trail through the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Sherman is a strong advocate for a balanced budget, federal aid for education, working families, environmental standards, the protection of Social Security and Medicare, and policies to expand U.S. exports.
Prior to becoming a congressman, Sherman was with a big-four CPA firm where he provided tax law counsel on multi-million-dollar transactions, provided tax and investment advice to entrepreneurs and small businesses, and helped represent the Government of the Philippines under President Aquino in a successful effort to seize assets of deposed President Marcos.
Sherman earned a bachelor of arts from UCLA and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
